About FixMyStreets
Who we are, why we do it and how it runs without charging anyone.

Who we are
FixMyStreets is an independent citizens' initiative. It is run by a team of volunteers, with hardware and hosting from VitalData. It is not a public service or a service of any municipality, and it does not speak for any public authority.
Why we do it
A problem in public space, such as a pothole, a broken pavement, a ramp blocked by a parked vehicle or a street light that is out, often never reaches the right service, because it is not easy to know which one that is. Here you mark the spot on the map, write what is wrong, and the report is emailed to the service responsible. Reports are also public, so the whole neighbourhood can see what has been reported.
To be clear about what we do not do: we do not repair the problems and we cannot promise they will be fixed. The service that receives the report decides that. We make sure it gets there and that it is visible.
How it runs and who pays
- It is free for everyone. There are no ads and we do not sell or share personal data (see the Privacy policy).
- VitalData provides the hardware, the hosting and the related costs. Development and day-to-day running are done by volunteers.
- If any of this changes, we will say so here.
Open source
We build on the open-source FixMyStreet platform by mySociety. The code of this site is also open, under the GNU AGPL v3: source code. Anyone can inspect it.
